RISE AND FALL OF A ROGUE STATE

"These ragged [businessmen] were a pitiable sight in their forlorn and marshy habitat; but their wretchedness made it all the more striking that they should have clung so tenaciously to some vestige of their ancestral customs."
— C. Lévi-Strauss

When a government or the international community considers that a third country is threatening the world's peace for its actions or just for its very existence (often presupposing that it's behaving irrationally and against its own best interests), they may declare it a 'Rogue State'.
This series shows the development of a society based on the predominant ideological premises of our time, carried to their ultimate consequences until the picture becomes the one of a totalitarian dystopia. Through its dwellers' testimonies and some external observations, we have fragmentary glimpses into the main aspects of this community such as economy, politics, legal system or everyday life. The set of drawings work also as a commentary on the challenges that come up when trying to implement an utopian idea, showing how isolation, scarcity and external hostility stimulate radicalization, victimism and military paranoia inside the social experiment, finally compelling it to choose between moderation or collapse.
